Sunset landscapes are a good beginner project because they can be simplified into large shapes and color areas.
Step 1: Draw the horizon Use a light pencil line to divide the sky and land or water.
Step 2: Block the sky Choose two or three colors. A simple combination can move from yellow near the horizon to orange and then a deeper color higher in the sky.
Step 3: Add distant shapes Draw a simple mountain or tree line in the distance. Keep distant shapes lighter and less detailed.
Step 4: Add the foreground Use a darker silhouette for nearby trees, grass, rocks, or a shoreline.
Step 5: Add the sun Place a small circle near the horizon. Keep its edges clean if you want a bright focal point.
Step 6: Add reflections If there is water, use broken horizontal strokes below the sun instead of drawing one solid reflection.
Final check Step back and look at the overall balance. Add details only where they improve the scene.
